Despite tepid pre-release buzz and a co-star who claimed not to know what the movie was about, the second installment in the Robert Downey Jr.-fronted "Iron Man" franchise utterly annihilated the competition (and it's own 2008 predecessor) with a $133.6 million weekend box office take. Director Jon Favreau can now add "directed movie with the fifth-highest grossing opening weekend of all time" to his resume. Although the film appears to lose ground on the pacifist nature of the first Iron Man film - Stark reluctantly lets his friend take the silver prototype to the US Military to be weaponized. Women are empowered as Pepper Pots ( Gwyneth Paltrow ) is allowed to become CEO of Stark Enterprises and Scarlett Johansson is convincing as secret agent for SHIELD in the role of Black Widow. Mickey Rourke gives and electrifying performance and whips the midlife crisis-ing Tony Stark into shape on several accounts. As far as profits for the block buster its - out of the red and into the gold.
