Frank Gehry proudly stated in a TED lecture that one of his best works was Bilbao because it was his first building that didn't leak.  As one of the most talented and persuasive architects of his generation, Gehry has truly pushed the envelope on geometric formal manipulation.  One has to ask, however, if he is simply getting bored of doing the twisted titanium cladden buildings and seeing just how far he can get a way with taking these structural gymnastics to cost prohibitive levels.  His New World Symphony and Brain Health clinic feel somewhat contrived. Unlike Bilbao the forms do not seem to relate at all to the interior and are somewhat superfluous.  Uncannily,  it appears as if he is getting rid of space and having an exercise in planar geometric discourse.  With the new Guggenheim coming up Gehry is showing he fears nothing.  The foyer alone of the new Abu Dhabi Guggenheim could house the entire New York City Guggenheim. With great power comes great responsibility.  And we musnt forget the old maxim "Just because you can, doesn't always mean you should." - Ecomanta
