Andrea Cochran: Modern Lanscape Architect of architectural landscapes

Andrea Cochran executes modernist landscape architecture that is more architecture than landscape.  Cochran uses light in equally architectonic ways - allowing plinths of stone slabs to float and water features to have dramatic lighting.  Even when plants and trees are used they are highly shaped and sculpted in to rectangular forms and other geometric shapes.  These compositions often take years to develop, but in doing so become truly part of the landscape.  Specimen trees and various mosses intermingle with almost Japanese Garden accents and formations. Few landscape architects execute with such precision and discipline - with masonry work that is laid by master level masons
