Jim Bean by Jeff Koons at Phillips de Pury
Over the years Phillips de Pury has increased its presence in the New York City art scene by moving from its Chelsea Location to a midtown East 57th st and Park Avenue.  Phillips strategically holds its auction exactly one day after the Sothebys major Evening Contemporary Auction with suspiciously similar cast of characters.  A fantastic Basquiat is being offered along with several other masters includning Lichtenstein, 2 major Warhols, and a classic "Jim Beam train" by Jeff Koons. Master tastemaker, and Decorator Architect, Inson Dubois Wood, claims: "Phillips de Pury is by far my favorite New York City Auction house after Sothebys and Christies.  They are hip, modern, and relaibale and above all they curate a wonderful show in an excellent location drawing huge crowds as it is open to the public. Bids tend to be less than Sothebys for similar pieces, so you can actually still get a deal once in a while." To see images of Inson Wood,   While the auctions tend to have less product, they are masterfully curated with panache and a lot of great turnout catering to the slightly younger crowd.  - Ecomanta.
