The greatest show on earth starring Jeff Koons, ends this weekend at the Whitney. In one of New York's most successful museum art shows ever, with sold out tickets and lines wrapping around the block even on rainy days, Jeff Koons has proven his significance not only to the world of art collectors but to the world of art lovers and beyond. Jeff Koon's ability to appeal to the masses serves to elevate fine art, not degredate it.
    Unlike many artists who seem inaccessinble to the common man, Jeff Koons, work is universally appealing to most and creates a dialogue even if occassionally controversial amongst the elite cognoscenti.

At what point is it the artists job to capture our hearts and our minds? Jeff Koons has been called by Inson Dubois Wood to be the greatest living artist, not only because of his record sales, but because of his record turnouts with audiences at The Met, Versailles and now the Whitney - the first retrospective breaking records.  Jeff Koons,  Hanging heart 23.6 million dollars in 2007,  was a record breaker at the 2007 Sothebys Contemporary art  Exhibit.

Playmobil - a popular subject matter for the top pop artist in the world, Jeff Koons,  childhood memories remain a primary target for his critique on human reason. If the artist role in society is to observe and present us with questions about our own cultural values or faults - is creating a depiction of something simultaneously seductive such a childhood memory and also common household object  thought provoking? We think the answer is a resounding yes - much like a famous musical piece the experience may be pleasurable or distasteful - yet  always worth contemplating.
